Biography

Shep started as a two-time All-America soccer goalie at Harvard, most Valuable Player of the NCAA finals in the Orange Bowl, member of the 1971 United States team during the Pan-American games, and goalkeeper of the United States Olympic team in 1972 at Munich.

When Messing joined the New York Cosmos, he brought with him a reputation for being flamboyant and controversial. He was remembered by his college teammates as the player who brought his pet boa constrictor to practice
